Did You Know?: Origin of Science.




Ø  Did you know that the origin of science is  traced back to the Egyptians and Babylonians, especially during the Neolithic age.?
Ø  Did you know that ancient science dates from the beginning of recorded history to about 476AD?
Ø  Did you know that modern science begin in the 1400’s?
Ø  Did you know that the first science scholars were Egyptian priests who taught Philosophy, Religion, Medicine, Law,  Geometry, Mathematics and Astronomy? These disciplines as a group was called “the Wisdom of the Egyptians”.
Ø  Did you know that the Egyptians were the first people to practice Astronomy? They studied the Heavens, the Stars and the Weather, chiefly for agriculturally purposes.
Ø  Did you know that Mathematics is traced back to the Egyptians through the “Rind Mathematical Papyrus”  written during the reign of Pharaoh A-User-re around 1650BC?.
Ø  Did you know that the first great Physician of the ancient world was the black Egyptian named Imhotep?  He lived about 2980 BC.
Ø  Did you know that  Imhotep, the black Egyptian physician was called the “god of Medicine” by the ancient Greeks?
Ø  Did you know that Hippocrates, known as the “Father  of Medicine”  in modern times lived about 2000 years after the first great  physician, the black Egyptian named Imhotep.
Ø  Did you know that in ancient Egypt, each physician had a single area of specialization. They had career Psychiatrists, Dentists, Oculists, and Embalmers. They were the first to practice Anatomy.
Ø  Did you know that the Egyptians were the first to do Surgery? This includes, bone, skull, jaw and brain surgery. They also performed Caesarean operation and removed Cataracts from the eye. They treated Fertility problems, Gall Stones, Arthritis and Tuberculosis.
Ø  Did you know that  the Egyptians were the first to do Engineering? They developed weights and measures, Boats with Sails and Metal working.
Ø  Did you know that the Egyptians invented writing? Theirs is called Hieroglyphics. They also invented Paper, called Papyrus.
Ø  Did you know that the Egyptians were the first to practice Chemistry? It was called Alchemy.
Ø  Did you know that the Babylonians made the first accurate astronomical observation of the rising and setting of planet Venus?
Ø  Did you know that the Babylonians were the first to predict Eclipses and calculated the relative positions of the Sun and the Moon?
Ø  Did you know that the first Senators and Ministers in human history were the Babylonian Priests, who executed major public works like dams, canal, irrigation and drainage systems? They were also in charge of allocation of resources to the cities and its members.
Ø  Did you know that the ancient Babylonians were the first to divide the day into hours, minutes and seconds? They divided the circle into 360 degrees.
Ø  Did you know that Thales of Miletus is the first natural philosopher? He believed that water was the source of all things. This was due to the fact that everything that exists in the world, whether solid, liquid or gaseous, had water or moisture underlying it.
Ø  Did you know that Leucippus the Greek is the founder of the atomic theory?
Ø  Did you know that Democritus believed that the soul is made up of refined atoms? He was a student of Leucippus.
